Obstacle courses, music and movement, young writers, letters and sounds...

Learning skills that will help when we go to school soon:

Music with movement:
Our music sessions have been full of upbeat tempo and excitement. The children have learned a range of movement, rhythm and dance whilst singing to the beat of the guitar.

We shook our bodies, and hopped on the spot. as we enjoyed slow or fast movements depending on the beat of the song. When we sang 'Tiny Tim' the children were tapping the rhythm sticks to match the pace of the guitar strums. We listened well. We laughed, We sang. We knew when to be quiet.

Making 'popcorn' using the colourful parachute created more excitement and fun as the soft balls were shooting in the air and landing everywhere. Then we used scarves to spin around like helicopters or sweep the floor with pretend brushes. The children were taken on a journey using their imaginations and some simple, effective props. Every day is fun for all our children.

 Garden play and exploring obstacles:

We did a mini obstacle course in the garden which included climbing, going through tunnels and jumping off logs to see how we land. The children took turns to practice these fun skills and cheered each other on. We love exploring different ways of moving in a safe environment.

Young writers.
The children were practicing holding a pencil using the tripod method, with 3 fingers. Most of them managed very well, and a few needed input to support their grip. We wrote our names, using our name tags which we copied. Afterwards the children did free drawing and enjoyed other writing activities.

Letters and Sounds activities:

We played a fun game today. The game was 'what's that sound?' The children were introduced a variety of different objects that produced different sounds. We hid the objects, made them 'sound a sound' and they guessed what the object was. Afterwards the children had a chance to play with the objects and have a go at making sounds themselves.
